Where is Puerto Aventuras

Puerto Aventuras is located in the heart of the Riviera Maya, between Playa del Carmen and Akumal. From the Cancun Airport, the best way to get to Puerto Aventuras is by rental car or private shuttle. If you are planning a day trip to the Puerto Aventuras resort from Playa del Carmen or Tulum, you can either take a taxi or grab a colectivo (public shuttle).

How you get to Puerto Aventuras will depend on your budget and your schedule and we have detailed some of the options you may want to consider.

How far is Puerto Aventuras Resort from the Cancun Airport?

Puerto Aventuras is located at kilometer marker 269.5 on Federal Highway 307. Puerto Aventuras is 77 kilometers from the Cancun Aiport and the trip will take approximately 1 hour in a rental car or private shuttle. 

Traffic on the highway can vary depending on the time of day, weather conditions and construction and can add up to an hour to your travel time. If you are planning your trip from Puerto Aventuras resort back to the Cancun Airport, be sure to build enough time into your trip to allow for delays.

Getting to Puerto Aventuras from the Cancun Airport

Getting to Puerto Aventuras from the Cancun Airport is relatively easy. The travel time can vary depending on your method of transportation and traffic conditions on Federal Highway 307. There are several options for transportation to consider.

Rental Car

There are dozens of internationally recognized rental car agencies at the Cancun International Airport or located nearby. Those located offsite will provide shuttle services to the agency from your arrival terminal. Once you have picked up your rental car, the trip from Cancun to Puerto Aventuras resort should take just over 1 hour. 

You may want to consider renting a car especially if you are planning an extended stay and want to be able to freely explore the Riviera Maya and the Yucatan on your own. Costs will vary depending on the season and availability and you can check the most up-to-date rates here.

Taxi

Taxis that are licensed to pick up travelers from the Cancun Airport can be found stationed in the designated ground transportation area as you exit your terminal.

A taxi ride from the Cancun Airport to Puerto Aventuras will take just over one hour and will cost anywhere from 80 USD to 120 USD. Prices are supposed to be set and the costs posted publicly but these rates are not always adhered to. Don’t be afraid to haggle or move on to another car to see if you can get a better price.

Private Driver

There are a number of reputable Private Drivers who offer concierge services to and from Puerto Aventuras. As part of the concierge services, Private Drivers will make stops along the way for beverages or to stock up on groceries on the trip back to Puerto Aventuras. 

As you can imagine, most of these people have a loyal clientele of friends and family and do not advertise their services. If you are lucky enough to be referred to one of PA’s Private Drivers, expect to pay anywhere from 70 USD to 120 USD for the service.

Private Shuttle

If you are traveling with a group of 4 or more or if you are coming with a lot of luggage, SCUBA gear etc. a Private Shuttle service is the best option. A Private Shuttle will pick you up from your arrival terminal and bring you straight to your resort, condo or vacation villa in the Puerto Aventuras resort. 

Travel time from the Cancun Airport will be about an hour and 15 minutes, depending on traffic. Some companies charge per person and if you are traveling alone or as a couple, this may not be the most economic option. Others charge a flat fee for the trip. Shared Shuttle

If you are looking for a comfortable but economical option for getting from the Cancun Airport to Puerto Aventuras, a Shared Shuttle service may be the best option for you. There are several reputable companies that will pick up passengers from each of the three arrival terminals, and deliver them to the various hotels and resorts along the Riviera Maya corridor. 

The shuttles will be able to enter each resort property and deliver passengers right to the hotel reception. Shared Shuttles charge per person and can be quite economical, especially for solo travelers but it can increase your travel time by several hours depending on the number of stops ahead of you.

Here are a couple of shared shuttle services you could use to get to Puerto Aventuras. Choose one to check availability.

ADO Bus

The ADO bus is the most affordable way to get from Cancun south as far as Playa del Carmen. The ADO buses run to Playa del Carmen from the airport daily, approximately every half hour, between 8:15 AM and 11:40 PM. A one-way ticket costs 225 pesos per person. You can buy your tickets in advance, online, here or purchase them from the official ADO ticket booths outside the airport in the ground transportation area.

The ADO bus is very comfortable but can only take you from the Cancun International Airport as far as Playa del Carmen. From there, you have two options to complete the journey to Puerto Aventuras. 

What about the Mayan Train?

Yes, the Mayan Train is coming but as of early 2023, the project has yet to be completed. When finished, the Mayan Train promises to connect travelers with all destinations around the Yucatan Peninsula including Puerto Aventuras. However, to date it is still unknown when the Tren Maya will be completed and what the fare structure will be. Stay tuned!

Getting from Playa Del Carmen to Puerto Aventuras

Taxi from Playa del Carmen to Puerto Aventuras

Once you have arrived in Playa del Carmen, you can hail a taxi from the ADO bus terminal.

A taxi can enter the main gates and deliver you to your resort or vacation rental. Expect to pay anywhere from 400-800 pesos depending on the time of day and mood of the driver.

Colectivo from Playa del Carmen to Puerto Aventuras

The second option is to walk to the colectivo staging area which is located on Av 25 behind the McDonalds. The southbound shuttles will likely be labeled “Playa-Tulum”. You may have to ask a few drivers but it is not difficult to find the right ones. A colectivo from Playa del Carmen to Puerto Aventuras should cost about 40 pesos.

Some things to keep in mind about colectivos. These shuttles are the main form of transportation for locals and are very economical. However, they vary in their level of comfort. Some will be air-conditioned. Others will not. If you are sensitive about personal space, you may want to spring for a taxi. If you are traveling with a lot of luggage, this option will not work for you. 

From Playa del Carmen, the colectivo will bring you to the stop on the east side of Federal Highway 307. Each traveler will alert the diver in advance of their desired stop. Simply raise your hand and say clearly “por favor. The Puerto Aventuras “parador” is located under the bridge so be sure to give the driver plenty of notice. From there, you can either go by foot into Puerto Aventuras resort or try to hail a cab to bring you inside and to your hotel or condo. 

So which is best for you?

How you decide to get to Puerto Aventuras resort from the Cancun Airport will depend on your particular budget and your schedule. 

If time is a priority and you don’t want to waste one moment of your precious vacation time, enlisting the services of a Private Driver or a Private Shuttle service is the best way to go.
