Seaside Rotary Presents the 1st Annual “Yappy Hour” Halloween Dog Costume Contest in Puerto Aventuras

The Rotary Club of Playa del Carmen Seaside invites you and your 4-legged canine friends to join us for the 1st Annual “Yappy Hour” Halloween Dog Costume Contest. The event will be held at Central Park Plaza on Sunday, October 30 at 4 pm.
This family-friendly fundraising event is the first of its kind on the Riviera Maya and the organizers are hoping for a great turnout!
Registration for the contest will be managed on the day of the event by Seaside Rotary volunteers.
The cost to register is 200 pesos per dog per category. (Dogs only please)
Dogs and handlers of all ages are welcome! Participants are welcome to enter their dog(s) into as many categories as they please.
(Dogs must remain on leash at all times with exceptions made for the talent competition)
2022 “Yappy Hour” Event Categories
The 2022 “Yappy Hour” Halloween Dog Costume Contest Categories will be:
- Best Senior Dog Costume (age 7+)
- Best Young Dog Costume (under 1 year)
- Prettiest Dog Costume
- Most Handsome Dog Costume
- Spookiest Dog Costume
- Best Large Breed Costume
- Best Medium-Sized Dog Costume
- Best Small Breed Costume
- Best Rescue Dog Costume
- Most Talented Dog (2 minutes max)
The winner of each category will be selected by a panel of expert local judges.
The winner of each category will take home prizes and Gift Certificates donated by local Puerto Aventuras businesses.
Who will be “Top Yapper 2022“?
Participants, family and friends can all vote to see which dog is crowned “Top Yapper 2022”.
Each voting ticket costs 50 pesos. You can buy as many votes/tickets as you please for the dog of your choice. The dog and handler team with the most tickets wins!
The “Top Yapper” will take home a special ribbon and bragging rights. His/her handler will win 2 Day Passes for the Puerto Aventuras Beach Club!
The Seaside Rotary “Yappy Hour” Halloween Dog Costume Contest is a community fundraising event. 100% of the money raised from registrations and voting ticket sales will go to support two of Seaside’s ongoing community projects, Kicks4Kids and Feeding the Future.

Rotary Club of Playa del Carmen Seaside
Founded on April 24, 2012, the Rotary Club of Playa del Carmen Seaside was conceived as a means of encouraging fellowship and facilitating meaningful and productive service within Playa del Carmen’s English-speaking community. Chartered by Rotary International on September 6, 2012, Seaside Rotary now has 25 members, each dedicated to upholding the Rotary ideal of “Service Above Self”.
Seaside Rotary’s core mission is to help improve the daily lives and prospects of the children within its service community, Solidaridad. The club activities are focused on fundraising and volunteer support for well-established, local charitable organizations that have a proven a direct, measurable and positive impact on the children and families within our area of service.
The club strives to provide assistance to community-based, non-profit, volunteer, public service, or charitable organizations with programs that benefit children and youth through family support, education, improvement of infrastructure, and access to health benefits within the communities of Solidaridad. Among Seaside Rotary’s community initiatives are Kicks4Kids and Feeding the Future.
About Kicks4Kids
Founded in 2013, Kick4Kids is an ongoing sneaker drive managed by the Rotary Club of Playa del Carmen Seaside. The project’s mission is to provide good, sturdy sneakers to as many underprivileged children as possible. The club collects shoes year round but the main distribution dates are at the beginning of the scholastic year and the Christmas holidays. The club accepts new and used sneakers in “like-new” condition as well as monetary donations to support this program. Funds raised from the 2022 “Yappy Hour” Halloween Dog Costume Contest will help us to provide sneakers for hundreds of children in underserved communities.
About Feeding the Future
Since 2017, the Rotary Club of Playa del Carmen Seaside has been providing hearty, nutritious meals to school children living in the community of Torres de la Paz, a desperately poor community located on the outskirts of Playa del Carmen. For five years, Seaside Rotary has been able to support this feeding program in a small community school. In response to the COVID pandemic, the club increased its support from three days a week to five days a week and has maintained this since 2020. Currently, the club is providing food for over 100 at-risk children. In many cases, this is the only meal these children will receive. Funds raised from this event will allow us to continue this essential program.
