[CLOSED] Taco Loco in Puerto Maya Inaugurates New Gran Buffet
[CLOSED] One of our very favorite things to do is check out new restaurants, especially if they are off the beaten path or relatively unknown. Hunting down the best tacos in Puerto Aventuras is practically my hobby so when we heard that there was a new buffet at Taco Loco, we had to check it out!
Taco Loco is certainly not new and hardly off the beaten path but when we got a tip that they had started a new buffet-style format, we jumped at the chance to investigate what they are offering.
Taco Loco is now offering an all-you-can-eat buffet for breakfast and lunch every day. Breakfast items are served from 7:30 am until noon at which time they switch over to their lunch menu. This is what we tried out today.
We arrived at about 2:30 pm and the staff greeted us warmly. They took the time to explain the cost of the buffet (150 pesos per person) and the items that they were offering. The chafing dishes were set up very professionally and everything looked good and fresh. The plates and silverware were very clean as were the serving utensils.
What’s On the Menu
After looking at all the options, I loaded up my plate with chicken empanadas, chicken fajitas, cochinita pibil and pescado al mojo de ajo. I also had a big bowl of red pozole. Included in the price of the buffet was a choice of agua de tamarindo or horchata. I chose the latter.
For side dishes, there was rice, steamed vegetables, pureed black beans, pasta with red sauce and mashed potatoes. Fresh tortillas were available as well as the customary garnishes of fresh radish, chopped onion and minced habañero and two salsas, green (not spicy) and red (picante).
For dessert, today they offered arroz con leche (rice pudding) and cut-up fresh fruit, both of which we passed on but only because we were full.
The Verdict
Everything was delicious. Truth be told, I generally steer clear of buffets, I find that for the most part, everything kind of tastes the same. In this case, the flavors of each dish were bright and distinct.
Was their cochinita pibil the best I have EVER had? Maybe not. But, it was a very flavorful and moist rendition and better than many I have tried. Jazzed up with a bit of hot sauce, the pozole was excellent and I would go back for those two items alone.
If you are looking for good local food and want to try a variety of different dishes, this buffet is a very reasonable and reasonably priced option. The menu varies from day to day, so you never know what you might find.
In the evening past 5:30 pm, Taco Loco converts back to their full regular menu. This is a great place if you are looking for late-night tacos al pastor (and if you are not, you should be). They definitely have some of the best tacos in Puerto Aventuras and it’s worth the trip across the highway to find them.
In the evening, Taco Loco offers full service in the restaurant as well as delivery inside the Puerto Aventuras resort community. You can find their contact information and location HERE.
