The festival’s unique setting in Puerto Aventuras, combined with its outdoor and waterfront venues, made for an unforgettable cinematic experience. Attendees praised the festival’s organization, the quality of the films, and the opportunity to network with a global community of artists.
A Spotlight on Environmental Activism
One of the festival’s most anticipated screenings this year is the premiere of Greenpeace Mexico’s powerful documentary, “Voices of the Mayan Jungle: A Battle for Life” (Voces de la Selva Maya: Una Batalla por la Vida). The film explores the environmental and social threats facing the Mayan jungle, Mexico’s vital “green lung,” due to deforestation, industrial agriculture, mega pig farms, real estate expansion, and the controversial Mayan Train project.
The documentary gives a platform to Indigenous communities and environmental defenders fighting to protect their land and traditions. Carlos Samayoa, Greenpeace Mexico’s campaign coordinator emphasized, “We want the cry of the jungle to be heard throughout Mexico and beyond its borders.”
Special guests from Greenpeace Mexico and local environmental leaders will attend the screening for an interactive Q&A session, allowing attendees to engage in critical discussions about conservation and activism.
